Two goals from Victorian captain Will Oliver condemned Tasmania to a 2-0 defeat at the under-13 hockey championships in Hobart.
However, Bianca Pritchard’s team bounced back on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 defeat of Queensland.
A Harry Gregson field goal gave the hosts a 10th-minute lead and Milo Gee doubled the advantage from a penalty corner on the half hour. Tom Campbell reduced the arrears on 36 minutes but Tassie held on for the points.
The win moved Tasmania up to fourth of 12 teams with five wins and three draws from 10 games. They play bottom-placed Northern Territory at 9.30am on Wednesday.
In the girls’ tournament, Sophie Kruimink struck a 36th-minute field goal to earn a 1-1 draw with Victoria Venom.
Nic Duffy’s side then suffered their first defeat, 1-0 to Western Australia Emeralds.
Tasmania faces Queensland Cinders at 11am on Wednesday.
