At Tuesday’s October meeting, Cr Richardson will move a motion asking the council to correspond with the state government expressing its concern that TasWater is progressing ahead of its infrastructure priorities.
Macquarie Point infrastructure is “operating effectively and can continue to do so”, a TasWater spokesman said.
The motion also says funding of the Macquarie Point works should not come from the $200 million TasWater shareholder’s deal.
Instead, Hobart City Council should be the main financier of Macquarie Point works because it would be the major beneficiary, Cr Richardson said.
Shareholder funding would not be used on the Macquarie Point development, the spokesman said.
“TasWater has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government but the $200 million contained in this agreement, now endorsed by council owners, will not be used to relocate Macquarie Point.”
In regards to Bracknell’s sewerage scheme, TasWater will continue to work with the council.
“TasWater assesses priorities in relation the water and sewerage services on a range of criteria but the provision of customer service and the health of the community and the environment are key drivers of our formulating the priority of infrastructure projects,” the spokesman said.
General manager Martin Gill recommended the council not support the motion, but advocates for reticulated waste water services in Bracknell.
The meeting will be held at 1.30pm at Westbury Council Chambers.
