The winner of the sculpture competition will be announced at a long lunch at Moores Hill Estate, Sidmouth, on Friday November 30, costing $78.
The event is put on by the West Tamar Arts Group, and vice-chair Hilary Keeley said the general public often had a different take on the sculptures than the judges.
“They don’t necessarily know the briefing that the sculptors have been given, so its purely on their own concept of how they see the sculptures in the wineries,” she said.
“The idea is that the general public, and tourists as well because they’re very interested, can go through the wineries and vote for their favourite.
“There’s no charge to see the sculptures, so it’s a really good day to go and see them. Each winery has information on the sculptures, and they can fill that in with their votes and it’ll be drawn at Moores Hill.”
Forty sculptures were entered into the prize for 2018, with the works displayed throughout October and November at five wineries in the Tamar Valley.
The participating wineries are Goaty Hill, Iron Pot Bay, Holm Oak, Moores Hill, and Tamar Ridge Wines.
There will also be a progressive dinner on Friday, October 26, costing $150 per person.
Diners will travel by coach between the vineyards with paired food and wines at each venue, along with Artentwine curator Patrick Sutczak who will introduce and discuss each sculpture.
Tickets for both events are at artentwine.com.au.
This is the first year the competition has accepted mainland and international works, and Ms Keeley said that had made a significant difference.
“Last year we had about 10 sculptures, this year we’ve had 40,” she said.
“It also sets a higher standard - not that two years ago it wasn't a good standard, but of course now there’s more competition and the standard is just incredible.”
However, the winner of the $20,000 grand prize was still a local, Invermay’s Wayne Hudson.
