The newly launched Sunday jazz sessions aimed to introduce crowds to some of the state’s finest jazz talent and best brews.
Saint John’s Julian Flynn said jazz musician Jason Whatley approached him about a month ago looking for a venue.
“He said, ‘we’ve got some people who are pretty keen to do a bit of a dance and play some tunes’,” Mr Flynn said.
“I said, ‘sure, let’s give it a go’.
Mr Flynn said the event was very successful.
“I didn’t put a lot of work into it in terms of promoting it, and it was a really big turn out. It was on just a random Sunday,” he said.
“I gave it a couple of weeks, and people kept asking about it more and more, wanting to know if we were going to keep it going and do it again.
“Then around that time Jason actually popped back into the bar, and said, ‘let’s keep it going, I’ve got a few ideas and a few more people that are interested in playing some gigs’.

“I said, ‘let’s do it’.”
Mr Flynn said the only issue was whether people would keep attending. However, Sunday’s session proved popular with the people of Launceston.
“It’s been a great turnout,” he said.
“We’re going to keep it going until the end of the year, and if we keep having good turnouts like this, we’ll keep it a permanent thing once a month.”
Mr Flynn said he had visited jazz bars on the mainland, but hadn’t found a huge offering in Launceston.
“I definitely love to get around it. I think it’s more about the mood of the venue, and the music fits in well with that.
“We love having it in the bar here, it definitely seems to draw a bit of a crowd.”
The group playing at Sunday’s session saw organisers Whatley and Spike Mason playing for crowds as part of the Spike Mason Quartet.
The group played a range of originals and covers to the bar’s packed gin room.
Two more Bop n Brews sessions will take place in 2018 at Saint John Craft Beer on November 4 and December 2.
