Saturday’s schedule included 15 sections before the award presentations from 7pm.
The eisteddfod ran the full scope of dance styles from classical to neo modern, but for nine-year-old Harriet Woolley, the highlight was the song and dance solo.
“It was my favourite because it was my first time singing and dancing on my own, all by myself,” she said.
“I did Little People, from Les Miserables, and I think I did pretty well.”
She may be young, but Harriet said the appeal of dancing for her was testing herself. She performed in three sections at the Festival of Dance: song and dance solo, song and dance group, and jazz group, with the Classic Dance Company.
“I like the movement, and I always like challenges, and also working together in groups,” she said.
Mum Sharon Woolley couldn’t be prouder.
“I think she did great,” she said. “It was her first time doing the solos and she was pretty nervous, but she held it all together.”
For her, Harriet participating in the festival was a no-brainer.
“I think it’s really good for her health and fitness, I think it’s really good for her concentration, it’s a good group activity, it’s great for coordination and balance and her self-esteem, and she seems to really love it,” she said.
The 2018 festival was adjudicated by Drew Anthony and Nicky Manego, and was staffed by a team of volunteers.
