Lodged with the City of Launceston council, the site on Prossers Road would be subdivided into two lots, with one used for the six-tent ‘glamping’ site. A house would be built on the other land lot.
An existing shed on the site to house amenities for the camping area, along with an existing house to be used as a manager’s residence.
The development application said the glamping plans “aligned well” with the site.
“Due to the primary habitat overlay covering a large portion of the site it is highly unlikely that the land could be cleared for grazing or cropping,” the application said.
The glamping bell tents, which are five-metres-wide and three-metres-high, would have four layouts.
One layout would have a double bed, another would have two double beds. The third would have a double and two singles and the fourth layout has four single beds.
The tents would have a wooden flooring and carpet, along with a fan and heater, chairs, table and lighting. A small fridge will also be included for breakfast packs and drinks.
The amenities area will have showers and toilets, along with a dining area, kitchen, lounge and reading area.
The glamping proposal is a “small scale business” that would supplement the income of the owners who already work full time.
“Realistically the occupancy will only occur at weekends and holidays,” the application said.
The North already has a number of glamping areas including one on the East coast and another at Clarence Point.
In the area, there are no records of any threatened flora or fauna, the development application said.
The site is located on the North-Esk catchment. There are no existing mapped drainage areas on the lot.
The development application is open for comment until October 18.
