Uncertainty may have plagued organisers in the lead up to this year’s Royal Launceston Show, but the one-day show is happening on Thursday, October 11, for a full day.

With Launceston Showground gates opening at 9am for the early starters on the Show Day public holiday, and closing after the 9pm fireworks display, show-goers will have plenty of activities to entertain them.
Royal Launceston Show Society president Jock Gibson said the show’s faithful supporters would be rewarded with everything they expected from an agricultural show, along with a few surprises.
“Livestock judging will be running all day for sheep and beef and dairy cattle. There’s junior handling competitions too,” Mr Gibson said.
“We are hoping to have the national Hupmobile rally here. They have been touring the state and should be calling in at the show around 4.30pm and staying until late.”
Entertainment has been scheduled throughout the day and night, with bands, a mix of roving entertainers, costumed performers and Djembe and Taiko drum classes.
“There’s an extreme bike stunts until almost 7pm and the animal nursery is open until 6.30pm,” he said.
“Social Circus is teaching circus skills all day and there will be singers until we close.”
Wood chopping events will also run throughout Thursday, but the action really picks up when the hot chainsaw events start at 7pm.
“That’ll be quite entertaining,” Mr Gibson said.
Cat and dog judging is also happening on site during the day, with miniature horses roving the grounds.
However, there is no show jumping due to state titles.
Other attractions include the home craft pavilion, farm show, side shows, rides, show bags and food court, and this year Sue’s of Invermay presents a ladies’ fashion parade at 2.30pm.
Mr Gibson said main of the elements from the usual three-day Launceston Show had been packed into one day this year.
“One day suits many people better than three. The feedback has been good,” he said.
“This year [the show] is more compact, with less walking.
“Everyone we speak to thinks it’s a good idea. We’re just hoping for nice weather.”
Parking is available at the old cycle track near the University of Tasmania Stadium and at Inveresk.
Royal Launceston Show entry is at the gate only, with tickets reduced this year – $10 adults, $5 children between 5 and 15 years and $30 for a family ticket.
