If you fancy a day out in the sun and sand, pay a visit to one of Northern Tasmania’s best beaches.
Coles Bay
At Coles Bay, you’ll find renowned Wineglass Bay and Friendly Beaches.
The crystal clear waters offer an ideal location for swimming, boating, kayaking, and fishing.
The area is also a haven for wildlife, being home to sea eagles, red-necked wallabies, and pademelons.
Coles Bay is located on the state’s East Coast, and is a two hour drive from Launceston.
Bay of Fires
The beautiful Bay of Fires stretches from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point on the East Coast.
The bay is world famous for its orange lichen covered boulders.
Alongside swimming, the bay is also great for scenic coastal walks and game fishing.
The Bay of Fires is a two and a half hour drive from Launceston.
Bicheno
About two hours from Launceston is Bicheno, a seaside town famous for its beaches, fishing, and diving spots.
The Governor Island Marine Reserve is said to have some of the best diving spots in Australia, which can also be discovered by glass-bottom boat.
Greens Beach
About an hour away from Launceston, Greens Beach is lies at the mouth of the Tamar River.
The beach offers a scenic lookout, and also provides access to the beautiful Narawntapu National Park.
Low Head
About 45 minutes away from Launceston is quiet, family-friendly Lagoon Beach.
Take advantage of the free barbecues and children’s play area.
Also located at Low Head is Bell Buoy Beach.
Just east of East Beach leads you over the headland and around to four-and-a-half kilometres of beach and dunes.
Bridport
About an hour away from Launceston, Bridport’s Anderson Bay offers white sandy beaches and clear blue water.
Enjoy a dip in the water, a stroll along the beaches, or build sandcastles with the kids.
The beach is also a short walk to the town if you need a bite to eat.
