The kitchen is a partnership between the Migrant Resource Centre North and the Inveresk Tavern and has seen seven migrant groups take over the tavern’s kitchen and cook traditional meals.
Sunday lunches have been served since April and had been a great success, the Migrant Resource Centre’s Ella Dixon said.
Tavern owner, Charlie Rayner said he was thrilled with this year’s numbers.
“When I opened the pub to specific cultural groups to prepare and share their traditional foods as a way to fundraise, I had no expectation at how much it would grow and be supported by the wider community”, Mr Rayner said.
Participating groups have raised more than $8,000 for their communities’ activities. About 50 young people from Sudan, Bhutan and Afghanistan have volunteered, learning many valuable skills in customer service, food handling, and cash transactions.
