Comedic puppet Randy Feltface has shot back at fellow Fresh Comedy Gala headliner Sam Simmons, describing his behaviour as “typical”.
Simmons had some less-than-kind words for the non-human half of Randy and Sammy J when he spoke to The Examiner last month, even threatening to bring his own puppet to the Tramsheds to “out puppet the puppet”.
Randy said he felt pity for Simmons, but was open to the idea of collaborating with him on the night.
“He’s generally pretty xenophobic to anyone who is not a balding alternative comedian, so comments like that are to be expected,” he said.
“I’ve actually been trying to get him to do a double act with me for years, so if he brings a puppet along, I want it to be congenial rather than competitive.
“I’m going to counter his aggression with love, because I think he just needs a big hug.”
Randy and Simmons will join Judith Lucy, Dilruk Jayasinha and Gillian English for the annual Fresh Comedy Gala on Friday, October 5.
Having performed at previous galas, Randy said he is once again looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of the state’s leading comedic talent.
“The local comics are the ones I really enjoy watching,” he said.
“Tasmania has a really great comedy scene and this is a good chance to nurture some of those up and coming acts.
“I always love seeing what animal costumes Emergency Poncho will pull out.”
The 2018 Fresh Comedy Gala will be held from 8pm at the Tramsheds Function Centre on Friday, October 5.
