Cr Ireland was helping set up the Tamar Valley Writers Festival on September 15 when he received a call from his son-in-law telling him the majority of his election signs had been vandalised throughout the night.
Seventeen signs were damaged in the attack.
Cr Ireland said the incident was “disappointing”.
“I was saddened to see that a majority of my council election signs were vandalised,” he said.
“I have been proud of my efforts in council and wish to represent the West Tamar community for another term.
“I would encourage anyone who has a problem with myself to contact me directly.
“Some days are harder than others but I won’t let this set back stop what we are trying to achieve moving forward.”
