Alister Cole, Ben McLean, Mat Holt and Caitlin Beaumont have spend the past two weeks completing their induction with Ambulance Tasmania, and from Monday will commence their authority to practice training.
For Ms Beaumont and Mr Cole, the job was an opportunity to return to their home state having both grown up in Tasmania and completed their studies at UTAS.
After spending three years with the Queensland Ambulance Service, Ms Beaumont said she was readjusting to the cooler climate.
“The weather definitely took me by surprise when I first arrived,” she said.
“I always knew I wanted to return to Tasmania one day and I love the diversity of this job, and not knowing what to expect each day.”
Originally from Hobart, Mr Cole has spent the past 18 months in Melbourne and said the time was right to come home to Tasmania.
“The challenge of being a paramedic is what always appealed to me,” he said.
“I really like helping people, and it is not every day and in every job that you are actually able to do that. Plus being back in Tasmania feels great.”
The jobs mark new beginnings for Mr McLean and Mr Holt, who both said they were excited to make Launceston their home.
Mr McLean has worked for Ambulance Victoria for the past two years and said it had been “go go go” since making the move.
“I love the autonomy that comes with this job, and being able to think on your feet and make a real difference to people’s day to day lives,” he said.
Previously based in NSW, Mr Holt said moving to Tasmania had always been a pipe dream he was happy to have made a reality.
“I love the outdoors and mountain biking, so I feel like this is where I am supposed to be,” he said.
“Everyone here has been so welcoming, I think it is going to be a great place to work.”
Health Minister Michael Ferguson said the recruits were a welcome addition to Ambulance Tasmania.
“The Tasmanian community will really appreciate the extra staff,” he said.
“There has been a real influx of people coming into the service in the last couple of years and with 42 more positions coming online in the next four years, there is also more opportunity.”
