This month was a historic moment for The Examiner with the introduction of local news subscriptions.
Our readers – you – want news as it happens. We’ve witnessed this through our growth both online and our social media presence.
While change is regarded as the only constant – one thing that remains the same is The Examiner’s commitment to news and Northern Tasmania.
We believe in quality local journalism that you trust and information that keeps you connected.
We believe in truth, fairness, accountability and asking the questions that people may not want to answer.
Community news and feature writing have a rightful place alongside hard news.
Our role as the Fourth Estate and a voice for Northern Tasmania is, and will, never taken for granted.
It is a privilege every day to write for our readers.
We are here to help as well as ensuring Northern Tasmania continues to progress and advance.
In 24 hours, the newsroom produces four editions of The Examiner. They are morning, noon and evening editions of the website and the traditional print product that lands on doorsteps before the sun rises.
I hope to use this weekly newsletter to give you an insight into newsroom decisions, reflect on coverage of significant events and highlight stories that you may have missed through the week.
One of our favourite projects, every year, is the Junior Sports Awards. Over the years, these awards have recognised the hard work of Northern Tasmania’s junior athletes.
They can’t be recognised without you taking the time to nominate them.
If you haven’t already, please nominate a junior sports athlete for The Examiner’s Junior Sports awards. The categories can be found here and we have a new bursary in honour of the late Phil Edwards. Entries close today.
Until next week,
Courtney
