Renowned artists Cheryl Barker and Peter Coleman-Wright will headline an Opera Gala, featuring a variety of interstate and Tasmanian performers.
Part of the Tasmanian Scenic Opera Tour, the performance will include music from The Marriage of Figaro, The Tales of Hoffman, Madam Butterfly, Fidelio, Eugene Onegin, Cosi Fan Tutti, and many more.
Coleman-Wright said the venue was well suited to the performance.
“The church is just gorgeous,” he said.
“It’s always lovely singing in places like this which have lots of bricks and wood.
“The acoustics means you don’t have to work too hard as a singer.”
Considered one of the most versatile opera singers in Australia, Coleman-Wright’s career has taken him to the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls in the world.
He is a frequent guest of Opera Australia and has also performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
His wife has had similarly distinguished career, with Barker having performed for Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera just to name a few.
The soprano said there would be a “little bit for everyone” at Sunday’s concert.
“It’s a good cross section of opera,” she said.
