Carols by Candlelight coordinator and City of Launceston alderman Danny Gibson said he couldn’t think of anything more special than to have the event take place on the eve of Christmas Eve – December 23.
“We considered other options, including the Saturday and indeed, the week prior, but we think this will really be a beautiful start to Christmas Week,” Alderman Gibson said.
“Carols is not just a great family event, but it is also a showcase for our outstanding local talent.”
Alderman Gibson said all performers donated their talents to perform at the event.
“Another important aspect is that all funds raised through the gates support The Examiner's Empty Stocking Appeal, which in turn supports those in need at Christmas time,” he said.
“Over $73,000 has been donated in the previous five years.”
Alderman Gibson said the real secret to the success of our event was that it’s the embodiment of Christmas spirit – a community working together out of goodwill and generosity to put on the massive event.
“We know that many Launceston residents are of the view that it really doesn't feel like Christmas until Carols and we are proud to provide an event that brings that Christmas magic to life for children and adults alike - and this year, so close to Christmas Day,” he said.
The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise with support from Launceston sponsors.
- Launceston’s Carols by Candlelight will take place on Sunday, December 23 at City Park. Gates will open at 5pm.
