The new Cricket Tasmania Premier League team plans to announce its squad at the launch to include revealing the captain for the summer.
Club chairman Richard Bennett said the Raiders are acutely aware of delivering a team that represents the interests of the Cricket North and North-West community.
The Raiders will be the first club outside of the existing eight rivals to join the league from outside the Hobart area.
“To see training at the [NTCA] indoor nets with the better players from each club working together rather than against each other has just been gold,” Bennett said.
“We think we now have a good opportunity to be really inclusive of the region.”
The Raiders will make their debut in the state’s Sheffield Shield-feeder competition at Kingborough on October 6 before returning to host New Town at South Launceston’s NTCA No.2 Ground.
Their nine home matches will encompass five club grounds and UTAS Stadium.
Bennett was pleased byes in the NTCA fixture allows its rank-and-file Launceston clubs to embrace the Raiders.
The one-time Tasmanian Shield batsman from 1984 until 1992 has called on the cricket-loving public to attend the launch and the fledgling club’s matches.
“We would like this to be a family thing,” Bennett said.
“The NTCA No.2 is quite conducive to a real picnic feel and deck chairs.
“We certainly encourage people to go that way to come and make a day of it.
“We’ll be putting out a matchday program for the community to provide an opportunity to get a little bit closer to who the players are.”
The Greater Northern Raiders launch starts at 6pm on level 1 at UTAS Stadium. Admission is free.
