However, Phil Hughes has been able to foster a lot of his professional working relationships into friendships.
A skill which he has passed on to his son Ryan Hughes, who has been taking over the management side of the business in recent years.
“Our partnerships with Brother, Sharp, OKI, Acco, Furnx, DAL Brands, 3M, Olympus and Starrtec allow us to provide better than the norm service to our customers,” Ryan said.
“We both have a willingness to work together to improve things for each other and the client, like supply chain, product availability, pricing and overall client value.
“From this personal relationships within the industry have stemmed some of which have spanned multiple roles in other companies and decades in some cases.
“The office equipment and product industry is fairly tight knit, and once you’re in, you rarely get out – you usually move on or are poached to another business and as such these relationships last,” Ryan said.
Phil Hughes Office Solutions has longstanding relationships with many suppliers, and so a level of professional trust has also been formed.

“Our suppliers trust us to make calls on repairs and warranty, they know that if we are phoning them to say something is unfixable and needs replacement, it means we have already tried a dozen different ways to try and fix it,” Ryan said.
But it isn’t just relationships with partners that are cherished at Phil Hughes Office Solutions.
Over the years lasting friendships with customers have been formed, many of which span the 21 years the business has been in existence.
“Our supplier partners are one strength in business, but another is our client partners,” Ryan said.
“Our client partners are those who we love doing business with whether that’s them using our service or us using theirs.
“We have literally hundreds of clients who are some of the best at what they do, and we love referring people through to them so they can share in the local economy.”
As a local business themselves Ryan said it was important for them to support local.
