East Launceston Bowls Club will stage the annual “Mad Dog” singles tournament on Saturday and Sunday following a player auction on Friday.
The cast is headlined by Canada’s multiple world and Commonwealth medallist Ryan Bester who has previously finished third and second and is the reigning Australian Open champion.
Under-25 world champion Ryan Burnett has also podiumed for two years running while fellow Scot Kevin Anderson is another Gold Coast-based world-class product, Katelyn Inch is a Kiwi tackling her second Mad Dog and former Australian under-18 representative Scott De Jongh debuts hoping to emulate his good mate Kelvin Kerkow’s victory in 2014.
A top-class home-state entry includes Mark Strochnetter, Michael and Lachlan Sims, Mark Nitz and David Minns.
First held in 2014, the tournament has quickly risen to become a Bowls Australia ranking event and much sought-after tournament in the national bowls calendar.
It is free for spectators.
