Councillor John Glisson made a submission to council earlier this month that “a motion of no confidence be passed in the mayor, for failing to carry out the functions of the mayor, as required in the Local Government Act 1993”.

The motion was considered in committee, where it was voted down eight to one.

While she described the support from her fellow councillors as “heartening”, Cr Archer said the motion was pointless.

“It’s always disappointing to see these types of motions in any council, because they actually have no basis in law,” she said.

“At the end of the day, councillors are elected by the community, and the only confidence they need to require is that of the community.

“It’s unnecessary for people to utilise these forums in this way.”

Cr Archer is again running for mayor in the upcoming local government elections.
