Candidate for West Tamar, Jorden Gunton, has announced he will also nominate to run for deputy mayor of the council in the October ballot.

Mr Gunton’s previous positions include soldier, small business owner, along with roles within government, not-for-profits, and private enterprise.

He continues to volunteer for a range of community organisations.

Mr Gunton said he brought a strong background of professional, personal and community experience to his role as a candidate for councillor and deputy mayor.

"I have been overwhelmed by the support of the residents and rate payers while out and about and have been encouraged by the community to also run for deputy mayor of our fantastic municipality."

“I believe in lower rates, less government interference, equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, and that we need to encourage business and development within the municipality.” 

Riverside resident Jess Greene has announced her intention to nominate for the West Tamar Council, vowing to bring fresh ideas to the municipality if elected.

An organiser with the Community and Public Sector Union, Ms Green divides her time between volunteering as a board member for the Child Health Association of Tasmania, Laurel House, and as secretary of Playgroup Tasmania.  She said she had long been an advocate for her community and wanted to see it flourish.

“I want the West Tamar to the best place to raise a family, and retire,” she said.

“I want us to maximise our tourism potential because we live in a beautiful place with phenomenal produce.

“We should all be very proud of the Tamar Valley brand.

“I want our small businesses to thrive and for us to make the most of the visitor economy.”

Ms Greene lives at Riverside with her husband Nathan and their three-year-old son Archie.
