North Launceston president Thane Brady on social media had questioned the order of the playing schedule.
The TSLW clash between two Hobart clubs was the curtain-raiser to the TSL grand final instead of the traditional reserves decider which involved rivals North Launceston and Launceston.
“The women’s game was a fantastic contest so full credit to them,” he said. “It’s ironic how these things happen.”
“For anyone who was here to watch it, they’ll walk away thinking the women’s game is getting better and better.”
The attendance of 4423 was also the lowest crowd in the statewide era which began in 1986, down from last year’s 6,108 that had featured the same TSL grand finalists.
“The weather this morning was a challenge, so maybe a few got out of bed and thought it would not be a good day to be sitting at the footy,” Saunder said.
