The wicketkeeper-batsman will take over the reins from star batsman Alec Smith, who led the Knights to glory in the past two seasons.
Waller joined the Knights’ youth program ten years ago and played his first senior match in 2010-11.
He has largely stayed at senior level since and has scored two first-grade half-centuries – a 56 against George Town in 2013-14 and a career-high 74 against Latrobe last season.
The former Scotch Oakburn student is also coming off one of his most prolific seasons behind the stumps, having pouched 17 catches and two stumpings.
South Launceston will get its title defence under way at the NTCA No.2 ground on October 20 with a Greater Northern Cup fixture against Burnie.
The Knights will sit out round one with the bye.
