Planning is now underway for this year’s Launceston City Community Christmas celebration, hosted by Launceston City Mission, St Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army, and the Benevolent Society alongside the City of Launceston.
Salvation Army social operations manager Anita Reeve said the event offered families and individuals the chance to connect and build community over lunch on Christmas Day.
City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said it wasn’t just people doing it tough that would attend the lunch, there were other people in the community who find it a very difficult time.
“For some of us we have families and a lot of groups around us and we probably have too much entertainment, too much family time,” he said.

“However, that’s not the case for everybody in our society.
“There are so many people in our community that really need the support and need the encouragement and just the fellowship of one another.”
Salvation Army auxiliary lieutenant Roderick Brown urged those interested in volunteering to apply, with roles such as food service, hosting, stage support, and face painting available.
He said many volunteers said it was the “most satisfying and rewarding thing they’ve done”.
The event is open to everyone and is free to attend. More information is available at the Launceston Community Christmas website.
