Bower started well with rounds of 76 and 74, but faded over the final rounds carding 80 and 85, finishing in 57th place in the national selection event.
The state’s second representative Tim Smith, of Tasmania Golf Club with 75 and 78 missed the cut.
Kyle Michel of Shepparton won the title in a playoff with Jack Thompson of the Grange.
Junior golf
Juniors are reminded that the Southern Country Boys’ and Girls’ Championship is being played at Colebrook Golf Club on Tuesday, October 2.
This event incorporates selection for the Tasmanian team at the national 15 Years and Under School Golf Championship organised by the Jack Newton Golf Foundation at the Coast Golf Club in Sydney in November.
A second selection event will be held on October 5 with the Northern Boys’ and Girls’ Student Championship to be played at Mowbray.
In more junior news, Ulverstone Golf Club will be holding its junior masters tournament on October 8.
There are various categories for both boys and girls over 18, nine and six holes.
The cost is only $10 for 18-hole events and $5 for nine and six holes.

Around the greens
Launceston Golf Club hosts the silver spoon final on Thursday with 13 players representing clubs across the North.
Competing are Deidre Panton, Maree Fish, Julie Summers, Caroline Welch, Annette Bryan, Di Rattray, Raylene Taylor, Judy Freiboth, Carole Gunson, Toni Burton, Anne Stevenson, Susan Dransfield and Tracey Oliver.
Poatina Golf Club is host on Sunday for the men’s Northern B and C grade championships. A total field of 27 has entered for the 18-hole titles.
Royal Hobart touring professional Simon Hawkes has tied sixth in the recent Southport Pro Am with a three under par round. Queenslanders Peter Senior and Paul Hayden shared the honours with five under par.
The Volkswagen Scramble has started with the first event in Tasmania a mixed open on September 23 at Port Sorell.
