An anonymous artist, who works under the pseudonym Lord Scabar, has created a series of tiny doors – and they are causing quite a stir.
The miniature doors were first spotted at the weekend, located at a number of Launceston shopfronts and city landmarks.
The artist behind project says all will be revealed in due time, telling The Examiner the doors were part of a larger ongoing work which will be rolled out over the next year or so.
Lord Scabar said the doors could be considered as a talisman marking and celebrating the historic architecture of the city.
It is understood each door is numbered and the meaning of this will also be revealed over time.
Staff at Barratts Music took to social media on Saturday, after staff noticed a small door had been placed outside the George Street shop.
“Launceston is full of cool, interesting people,” the post read.
“I walked down George Street Monday morning and found we had a new door into the shop. Love it.”
More tiny doors have since been spotted around the city.
The Examiner has so far been able to track six of the doors, but it is understood there are at least 10 to be found, with more to be added to the series.
Known locations include the Commonwealth Bank on Brisbane Street, Whats New in the Brisbane Street Mall, The Examiner’s former office building on Paterson Street, Up York Cafe and Gallery Space on York Street, and at the front of the town clock on the corner of St John and Cameron streets.
A spokeswoman for the Junction Arts Festival confirmed the tiny doors were not part of the 2018 program, despite numerous tags on social media suggesting otherwise.
“They are definitely not a part of junction,” she said.
“We have had a number of inquiries, but it’s definitely not us.”
Interweave Arts coordinator Kim Schneiders said she was very impressed with the series, but said it was nothing to do with the Inveresk miniature arts trail launched last month as part of the Tamar Valley Peace Festival.
“It isn’t us, but I am so excited to find out more. I have been on the hunt for more doors myself,” she said.
“I think the concept behind this project is brilliant. It is making the most of a public forum and I think something like this, it is for people who are really looking.
