The 23-year-old was announced as Greater Northern Raiders chairman Richard Bennett’s successor late last month, having spent last season learning the ropes as an assistant coach.

Taylor led the Lions from a last-place finish in 2016-17 to a semi-final appearance last season, and said he had high hopes for more improvement in his second season as captain. 

“I’m really excited by it,” Taylor said. 

“I felt last year we made some great strides into what we want to do as a club and that kind of thing.

“So be able to head up the coaching side of things and the playing side of things with the captaincy, I’m really excited about trying to take the group and the club as a whole to the next level.”

Taylor will join Mowbray skipper John Le Fevre as Cricket North’s two captain-coaches after the flag-winner took over from Roger Brown in the off-season.

South Launceston announced in June that Dean Hawkins would take over the reins from club games record-holder Mark Nutting.
