The Kangaroos played two games a year at Bellerive Oval between 2012 and 2014, and upped that figure to three in 2015.
North Melbourne boss Carl Dilena says his club would be keen to add another Hobart trip to its schedule as long as fixturing can be arranged to avoid his club travelling out of Melbourne too regularly.
“Our partner, TT-Line, is very keen for a fourth game and they always have been,” Dilena told the AFL website.
“They want to make sure that they can fill up the year with games. They see it as too long a gap between games at the moment with only three, so they would like a more complete season.
“We're happy to consider that with them. If it’s possible for the AFL to do it with the fixture and the new stadium arrangements and if it makes sense for us, well then let’s have a look at what the model looks like.
“We have to make sure that it works for all parties involved and, most importantly, our members.”
The Kangaroos have enjoyed a great record at Bellerive Oval, winning 14 of their 18 matches to date.
However, average crowd numbers at the ground have dropped to below 11,000 in the past two years, with a 7194 turnout in round nine this year the lowest yet.
“It’s been great for us in terms of winning games down there and we’re getting positive feedback from members and people who go down to Hobart for games,” Dilena said.
“The only question mark is travel, because I think in the fixture to date the AFL has seen us playing in Hobart as a home game rather than a travel, which has meant we've had back-to-back away trips a couple of times around Hobart games.”
Hawthorn already plays four roster games in Tasmania and, like North, is locked into a deal until 2021.
Rumours have long been circulating that the AFL plans to install North Melbourne as the sole AFL team playing games in Tasmania.
However, Hawks president Jeff Kennett has gone on the record saying that the Hawks intend the extend their deal beyond 2021.
