The triple j event took place at the St Helens Football Ground.
Both Joy and Fields caught the same flight to Tasmania on Friday evening.
“We had that beautiful experience of landing and arriving during dusk,” Joy said.
“We got all kinds of crazy light. Then, we got [to St Helens] in the dark.”
Fields said the sunset they experienced on the way was insane.
“That pink that faded into the greyish-blue on the other side of the mountain was stunning,” she said.
“We all had our film cameras out trying to get the best angle.”
Fields and Joy said said it was great seeing the town decked out in orange and ready for the massive event.
“It’s crazy. Every man and his dog knew about it,” Fields said.
“It seems really cool, because we were just out walking today and everyone just kept saying hello to everyone,” Joy said. “It was so nice.”
Joy said it was cool having the opportunity to be involved in the biggest event the state’s East Coast had ever seen.
“I think it’s a really nice combination of a really beautiful place, really great music, and a really great investment into the community,” she said.
“So, it’s like all the things I love in one.”
Fields said it was great having the opportunity to inspire the youth of St Helens.
“We were just saying how cool it is to inspire those little grommets who have instruments in their bedrooms here that don’t get the opportunity to, and don’t have the money, to go to festivals to see their favorite musicians,” she said.
“It’s really cool giving them the means to inspire them to do music.”
During Middle Kids’ set, Fields joined the band onstage to perform a special cover.
Joy said they planned to play Homemade Dynamite by Lorde.
“I feel like it suits our voices pretty well,” she said,
Fields said it was a song she didn’t think many people would expect them to play.
“Like, Middle Kids and Ruby Fields doing a cover – I think the last thing in people’s minds would be Homemade Dynamite by Lorde,” she said.
The two said they were also keen to see other acts on the lineup.
“I just want to meet Peking Duk, because they just look like the biggest riot of a time,” Fields said.
“They are like literally exactly how you would imagine them. They’re so good,” Joy said,.
“I’m actually getting up with them tonight, and Tim [Fitz] from Middle Kids on guitar.
“It’s going to be good.”
Joy said they would be playing The Strokes’ massive hit, Last Nite.
“Again, a song you wouldn’t really expect they’d pick,” Fields said.
Joy said she was really keen to see triple j Unearthed competition winners The Sleepyheads.
“They come from Launceston, and they’re awesome,” she said.
“I haven’t heard of them, so I’d really like to sit and listen,” Fields said.
After the One Night Stand, Fields headlined the After Party alongside Tassie band Luca Brasi.
“I’ve got a couple of new tracks as well, some unreleased ones, that we’re going to play,” she said.
“It’s going to be nice.”
