Thousands of people are expected to flock to the St Helens Football Ground for the biggest event the East Coast has ever seen.

So before you hit the road for triple j’s One Night Stand, here is some very important information to ensure you make the most of the event. 

It may be the first day of spring, but you’ll still require a jacket and beanie. 

A cold front is crossing Tasmania on Friday night, bringing with it a cold southwesterly flow on Saturday – aka it might be a little chilly so short shorts are not recommended. 

There’s also a slight chance of rain, but the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a maximum of 13 degrees. (Maybe you can wear those short shorts). 

Bring your parents, your kids, your grandparents, but leave the pets at home. 

One Night Stand is an all ages event. 

Entry to the venue is by gold coin donation, with proceeds going toward community groups on the East Coast.

Gates open at 3.30pm on September 1. 

DRIVING

The best way to get to St Helens from Launceston or Hobart is on the Great Eastern Drive.

Leave plenty of time to reach your destination as speed reductions will be in place at St Helens from 10am August 31 until 10am September 3.

The St Helens township speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h, the St Helens Sports Complex area to 20 km/h, and 500 metres either side of After Party at 24798 Tasman Highway will be reduced to 60 km/h.

Parking will be available off Tully Street and at the St Helens District School oval.

CATCH THE BUS

Snacks for the road trip, warms clothes and good vibes.

Items such as glass bottles, weapons, folding chairs, tables, and eskies are not permitted inside the venue.

Besides epic tunes, food and drink will be available onsite, with eftpos available.

St Helens

Aside from the One Night Stand, game fishing capital of Tasmania has a lot to offer.

St Helens is the largest township along the Great Eastern Drive, and is a great base for exploring the rest of the East Coast.

Many after parties and recovery sessions are taking place in the town following Saturday’s event that are worth sticking around for, such as the Big Easy Block Party and Buskers Festival.

Bay of Fires

The Bay of Fires is world famous for its white sand, blue ocean, and orange lichen covered boulders.

Outdoor activities, such as coastal walks, guided tours, and fishing are popular here.

Pyengana

Inland from the coast is the Pyengana Valley. 

The small dairy town is home to the historic Pyengana Dairy and one of the oldest pubs in Tasmania – the Pub in the Paddock.  

From here, you can also visit the beautiful St Columba Falls.

Bicheno

One of the East Coast’s most popular holiday destinations, Bicheno has great beaches, climate, and seafood.

For animal lovers, fairy penguins can be seen at dusk and East Coast Natureworld is home to Tassie’s unique animals, birds, and reptiles.

Coles Bay

Coles Bay is a great base for exploring the East Coast’s iconic Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park.

The area is renowned for its granite peaks, secluded bays, and beautiful beaches.
