Ms Hickey had earlier warned members during a rowdy question time when most questions were directed to Health Minister Michael Ferguson about the concerns raised by Hobart staff specialist Dr Frank O’Keeffe who gatecrashed his media conference on Monday.
The ejections came as Premier Will Hodgman was defending Mr Ferguson who he said was doing “an exceptional job.”
The Labor member for Franklin, David O’Byrne, was the first to be ejected just before 11am.
“Mr O’Byrne you have the honour of being the first person to take a coffee break,” Ms Hickey said.
“I think you can come back at the end of question time.”
Several minutes later Ms Hickey ejected the member for Bass, Ms O’Byrne, a former Minister for Health.
“I’m going to suggest that Ms O’Byrne goes and has a coffee and a deep reflection,” the Speaker said.
Both MPs were absent for less than 10 minutes.
Ms Hickey was elected speaker in May when parliament resumed for the first time this year.
Research from the databases from the Tasmanian parliamentary library showed that one MP was suspended by Mr Shelton (Speaker from 17/10/2017 – 28/1/2018) and two by Elise Archer during the first three months of her speakership.
Former veteran Labor MP Michael Polley did not suspend any MPs during his first term of speaker which began in 1989. Records show that no-one was suspend by him until 2004.
