A man has been charged with drug trafficking after he allegedly brought one kilogram of methamphetamine into Tasmania on Friday.
The drug was concealed in his underpants.
A 31-year-old man from Gagebrook, in the state’s South, was arrested at Hobart International Airport on Friday.
Police say he was disembarking a direct flight from Sydney.
Tasmania Police Inspector Gavin Hallet said the seizure would have a significant impact.
“If that was on the streets it could create significant harm to the community, in medical harm, health harm,” he said.
“It’s a very good haul to get this amount off the streets and reduce the impact of this on crime and drugs generally.”
Inspector Hallet said he was unsure if this was the state’s biggest drug bust.
“Tasmania Police will continue to monitor sea, air, and mail corridors, it’s part of our drug strategy over all and we will utilise these tactics with our partners,” he said.
