After lining up in Tasmania’s under-15 football side at the School Sports Australia tournament in Adelaide last month, the Mayfield 15-year-old was recently picked for a state under-17 cricket side to tour Queensland in October.
Artis played all five matches in Adelaide, hitting the scoreboard twice and getting named in the state’s best players in the first and last games of the campaign.
The Riverside Cricket Club seam bowler said he would be looking for a similar output in Queensland.
“It’s been pretty cool I guess, to be given the opportunity to play for my state in my given sports is awesome,” Artis said.
“We finished fifth overall (in Adelaide) and were a game away from making the finals, so that was pretty cool to see and then making the 17s for cricket has been pretty cool too.”

Artis began his love for sport in Milo Cricket at the age of five and added Auskick to his weekly schedule not long after.
The Brooks High student insisted he was at “about the same” level in both sports and didn’t prefer one over the other.
He credits his team-first attitude to his parents.
“I’m a team player - I don’t like to base it around myself, I try to be as much of a team player as I can.
“Dad has helped me heaps, both with footy and cricket and life and the same with Mum, telling me what road to go down and what one not to.”
The Wade Townsend-coached state under-17 cricket side will play six 50-over matches in Mackay and Brisbane between October 1 and 11.
