Creator and co-founder Dave MacDonald designed and created the Scoot Boot, a unique one-piece hoof boot for horses that is simple, lightweight and easy to fit that can replace the traditional steel shoe.
Mr MacDonald, who has worked as a horse trainer for 30 years and farrier for 15, realised shod horses could go barefoot comfortably with hoof maintenance, but hoof boots enabled them to also go over rough terrain.
He developed the ‘Old Macs’ multi-purpose hoof boot in 1998 and has been tinkering with the design since, inspiring a barefoot approach for horses around the world.
“We want to inspire, educate and advocate for a barefoot natural approach for horses around the globe, changing 1500 years of tradition,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Our Scoot Boots allow horses to virtually go barefoot, an option that is much suitable to their overall health,” he said.
Scoot Boots launched in 2015, and has a growing network of more than 400 stockists worldwide.
It also won the 2018 Telstra Tasmanian Emerging & Energised Award.
Telstra Business Awards provide recognition, expert advice and benchmarking for finalists and winners, opening doors to an exclusive network of businesses and opportunities.
The Scoot Boots team joins other state and territory winners at the Telstra Australian Business Awards event in Melbourne on September 20.
