Jake Anderson-Brettner was last seen driving at Riverside on Wednesday night.
Police began searching for the 24-year-old after he was reported missing and took two people into custody on Saturday morning.
Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox said police believed a man and woman from Riverside may have information about the case and were assisting with inquiries.
“Police hold grave concerns for the welfare of Jake Anderson-Brettner and as part of the ongoing investigation to establish his whereabouts, two people were arrested in Launceston this morning and taken into custody,” Detective Acting Inspector Fox said on Saturday.
On Friday, police appealed to the public for information about a number of vehicles being investigated as part of the case.
One of those was Mr Anderson-Brettner’s ute, a black 2011 Nissan Navara ute, registration H89ND.
The ute was found on Thursday afternoon in Balmoral Avenue at Riverside, but Mr Anderson-Brettner was nowhere to be seen.
Police are also searching for a black 2016 Jeep cherokee, believed to have been in the Riverside or West Tamar areas between 6pm Wednesday and 4.30pm Thursday, and a black 2015 Range Rover Evoque station wagon.
“Following our public request yesterday for sightings of three cars, I thank those members of the community who have provided information, and urge anyone else who saw the cars and hasn’t spoken to police to contact us or provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers,” Detective Acting Inspector Fox said.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, which can be done anonymously.
