More than 30 entrants from around Tasmania and interstate will compete across a variety of classes as part of the event.
This is the first time Launceston RC has been selected to hold the competition, which is certified through the Association of Australian Radio Control Model Car Clubs.
Club president Richard Green said the titles represented a significant step forward for radio control racing in the region.
“We’ve been working towards this for a couple of years,” he said.
“It’s taken a big effort to get the track and everyone else ready.
“Hopefully there will be more events like this held here in the future.”
Entrants had the opportunity to test out the indoor track on Friday ahead the weekend’s races.
Saturday will consist of two-wheel classes, including short course trucks and buggies, while Sunday will be all about the four-wheel drive classes.
The schedule commences at 9am each day and runs through until mid-afternoon.
Mr Green said the Tasmanian climate meant the club was forced to add a new element to off-road racing.
“We race on carpet,” he said.
“It’s pretty much the only surface you can hold events on during winter.”
Winners from each race will earn points towards the national championship. For more information, go to launcestonrc.com. Spectators are welcome.
