As the weather changes from cold and frosty to wild, windy and wet, numerous plasmodia – a feeding stage of a slime mould – creep among the leaves and over logs and stumps.
They form iridescent colours.
Sarah Lloyd will describe and answer questions about her research into these remarkable organisms.
Participants will have the rare opportunity to see a variety of different species, some of which are only 2 millimetres-high using hand lenses or a microscope.
They will also be able to view the exhibition of stunning photographs Slime Moulds – Nature’s miniature jewels currently on show in the foyer of the Meander Valley Council office.
As part of the national week, Celebrate Slime will be held at the Westbury Town Hall on August 18 from 2pm until 4pm. Entry is free.
