For about the fifth year, the club has donated $500 to The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal.
Club director Adrian van der Aa said the club had raised the funds in a multiple ways.
“One of our biggest fundraisers would be through us doing the gates at Symmons Plains for the V8s and also another couple of car meets that are held there,” he said.
“Other things we do is recycle newspaper, our Christmas cakes and four car boot sales. Any way we can raise funds we do.”
The Winter Relief Appeal has been running for 60 years.
Over the past 59 years, thanks to generous donations from the community, more than $3.5 million has been distributed to four Launceston charities – the Benevolent Society, St Vincent de Paul’s, the Salvation Army and City Mission.
Mr van der Aa said being part of Lions and donating to the appeal was all about community.
“Donating to the appeal is something we have done for many years. It’s an easy way to donate to the community which is what we’re all about and the four main organisations that need it,” he said.
“Lions is world-wide, but our main focus is our personal community here, then we broadcast the state, Australia-wide and world-wide.”
The Examiner editor Courtney Greisbach volunteer groups were vital for the appeal.
“Volunteers our community work incredibly hard to fund raise for projects they value. For the Hadspen and South Esk Lions Club to donate to the Winter Relief Appeal consistently every year demonstrates the impact the four charities have on our community,” she said.
“We are so grateful for the work the four charities do in Northern Tasmania and thankful we have dedicated service clubs who assist them deliver that support.”
While funds from The Examiner’s Winter Relief Cocktail party are still yet to be processed, more than $60,000 has already been raised, with new sights set on raising $70,000.
