The club was one of 11 winners crowned at the Derwent Sailing Squadron on August 4.
It’s the first time the club has received the honour.
Member Peter Brooks was also announced as one of two winners of the John Bennetto Medal, along with Tamar Yacht Club’s Jo Breen.
The Club of the Year win comes less than three months after PDYC officially opened its new jetty, bringing to an end one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the club’s history.
Vice-Commodore Barrie McIndoe described the latest accolade as “another feather in the cap” of the club.
“It’s great recognition for our members,” he said.
“For a volunteer club to go up against professionally-run clubs in Hobart and win reflects the effort they have put in.”
Founded in 1952, PDYC has both a keelboat and dinghy sailing program, which includes a variety of racing and training opportunities.
The club will go on to represent the state at the Australian Sailing Awards in Sydney on October 19.
Members will be hoping it can follow in the footsteps of Wynyard Yacht Club, which won the national Club of the Year award in 2014.
West Tamar Councillor and club patron, Peter Kearney, said there was no reason why the club couldn’t triumph at the next level.
“For me, they are not just the best club in the state, but also the country,” he said.
“I’ve always thought of it as a bootstraps club, because it has always pulled itself up by its bootstraps.
“It was created through volunteer labour and the members all have a keen interest in sailing.
“A lot of the clubs out there tend to exist more as social entities, but there has always been a real love for sailing there.”
Port Dalrymple Yacht Club is at 7 Kemps Parade, Beauty Point.
