Tasmanian Legislative Council member concerned over management of state's national parks

Rosevears independent MLC Kerry Finch will later this month move a motion on the management of the state’s national parks.

He said more work needed to be done on planning for the future of the state’s heritage areas and reserves amidst rapid growth in the tourism industry.

“While tourism is booming, stress is being put on some areas like the Freycinet Peninsula and the Overland Track,” Mr Finch says.

“We need to take a fresh look at how our previous natural areas should be managed in the future.”

He said a strategy was needed to attract visitors away from overcrowded natural areas.

The motion will be moved on August 21.
