The Tasmanian Open DanceSport Championships features Australian and international competitors from New Zealand to Iceland.
The event is Tasmania’s only ballroom dancing championship and event organiser Andrew Palmer said it was a great initiative.
“Tasmania is one of the most passionate dancing states in the country and this event brings the best of the best together,” he said.
“It is a great chance to see some of the world’s best dancers and to champion our own homegrown talent, aged five to 85.”
Featured on this year’s judging panel is world champion Hans Galke.
During rehearsals on Wednesday, Mr Galke said he was excited to see what Tasmanian dancers would bring to the floor.
“I have heard wonderful things about this event and I am certainly looking forward to Saturday’s entertainment.”
