Launceston Saints Supporters Group president Robert Anderson said the group has supported other organisations such as the Holman Clinic, and sought another good cause to get behind.
The group decided to donate $1000 to The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal.
“Obviously there’s a fair bit of publicity this year being the 60th year of the [Winter Relief] Appeal,” he said.
I’m also the vice-president of the Benevolent Society which is one of the beneficiaries of it. We thought it was a worthy cause.”
Mr Anderson said the group only had about eight or nine members, and their fundraising efforts throughout the year included raffles, footy margin tickets, and Bunnings sausage sizzles.
“We want [to give back] to what we think is a worthy cause,” he said.
“It’s good for the community. That’s what we’re all about.”
Donations for this year’s appeal can be made in person at Fairfax Media’s offices and at businesses displaying a Winter Relief Appeal tin.
Online donations can be made to the Winter Relief account: BSB 035822, Account Number 01143537. To use BPAY, use the same account with biller number 49429, reference number 0100 30041 8001443537 0.
Businesses, schools and community organisations can obtain a donation tin by calling 0417 402 618 or email mail@examiner.com.au.
Also supporting the appeal will be The Examiner’s Winter Relief cocktail party, which will be held at Penny Royal Wine Bar and Restaurant on August 10.
