Mr Paulsen said big developments such as the mountain bike trails and HMAS Darwin were well on their way.
“I suppose the cream on the cake is really the triple j concert which is happening,” he said.
“It just puts an absolute magnificent spotlight on the entire northern part of the East Coast.
“It’s all coming together at once which is a bit overwhelming. The town has absolutely come alive with the One Night Stand.
“We’ve decided we’re going to line up the streets with solar-powered fairy lights wrapped around the trees.
“There are buskers, there will be food vans around the place until daybreak.
“Apart from what triple j has done, it’s a rare occasion I’ve seen with so many people so engaged in wanting to put on a very good face down here.
“It’ll be the place to be.”
