Dr Nelson’s presentation was titled; Although leadership cannot be taught, it can be learned. The power is in the story.
The former opposition leader’s discussion delved into the stories of great leaders, such as Australia’s first Indigenous member of Federal Parliament, Neville Bonner, and the lessons that can be learned from them.
“Education more than anything else will defend us from ideas deeply rooted in ignorance and prejudice,” Dr Nelson said.
A peaceful protest took place prior to the beginning of the function.
About 10 Safe Asylum protesters standing against a development at the Australian War Memorial that would feature Australia’s border security force.
Dr Nelson respected their right to protest.
The free event took place on August 3 from 6.30pm at Scotch Oakburn College’s Horton Auditorium.
