The 17-year-old Launceston product is expected to be picked up in next year’s AFLW draft following consistent high-level performances in the past 12 months. “I just continue on. I don’t think about it too much and just focus on my own game,” King said.
“I don’t like to listen to all the talk and let it get to my head. I have improved a lot but I’ve still got to improve my kicking, but I’m picking up skills a lot quicker than I used to.
“I can be drafted next year which is exciting. I just have to keep working hard with the Launceston women’s side.”
King, who was Tasmania’s sole 2018 under-18 All-Australian representative, starred for Tasmania and the Allies during this year’s championships.
The All-Australian squad of 48 will play off against each other before the EJ Whitten Legends Game at the Adelaide Oval on August 31, something King is “very excited about”.
“It means a lot. The Allies was a very good experience,” the year 11 Scotch Oakburn student said.
“The girls hadn’t trained much together but we tried hard and played really well.”
King said she was fortunate to be well supported by family and teammates on her journey.
“My mum (Lucy King) has been my biggest supporter through this and my grandpa (Bill Marshall), who was my second biggest support, passed away last year,” she said.
