The appointment follows a lengthy process since the resignation of Mike Palmer, during which Michael Mcintyre has been filling the role on a temporary basis.
Bulkeley has more than two decades of experience in sports administration, including eight years with Football Federation Australia as both head of game development and national participation manager.
FFT president Bob Gordon said Bulkeley's experience, track record and industry knowledge stood him apart from a strong field of applicants, following an exhaustive national search.
“Matt's strong leadership skills, experience and deep knowledge of football at all levels in Australia make the appointment a great win for the game in Tasmania and its 14,000-plus participants,” Gordon said.
Bulkeley played a lead role in the implementation of FFA’s national football curriculum which helped achieve an overall membership growth of 10 per cent, including a 35 per cent spike in female participation.
“We’re focused on continuing to grow participation numbers at all levels of the game, regardless of age, gender or ability and we think Matt will be a major asset in helping drive that growth,” Gordon added.
Bulkeley has held leadership roles with Cricket Australia, Australian Sailing and will come to FFT following three years as chief operating officer of Life Education NSW. He will take up the role on Monday, August 27.
FFT runs the NPL Tasmania statewide competition which is set to increase from eight to 10 teams at the end of this season.
