The new and improved “C Block” is officially open for student use, when all public school students return to school on Tuesday.

Queechy High School principal Rob Fleming said the school community was looking forward to garnering feedback from the students on its updated facilities.

“We had some staff meetings in here today, which got really good feedback,” he said.

The redeveloped C Block is the first stage of a two-stage project at the school, which is funded under the state government’s capital works program. Funds were allocated to the project in the 2018-19 Tasmanian Budget.

Mr Fleming said the second stage of the project was progressing well.

“The slab is down and a lot of the steel work is in place,” he said.

The second stage includes four general learning areas and shared spaces. Stage two is a new building being built adjacent to C Block.

Mr Fleming said the upgraded facilities would lead to more collaboration and flexibility in learning.

The redevelopment has been designed by Launceston firm CMK Architects.

Stage one features eight general learning spaces, an assembly area/meeting space, staff collaboration and planning space and a tech hub. 

The design also features a new art installation, which is located outside the building.

Queechy High School is about 60 years old and has about 640 students, including 180 grade 7s.
