SES Tasmania has warned of possible 90km/h winds in the North and North-East overnight Monday and throughout Tuesday.
With rainfall expected to continue overnight Tuesday, minor flooding could occur and those in the North Esk and Macquarie River catchments with low lying pastures should monitor river levels and move stock and farming equipment when necessary.
SES northern acting regional manager Michael D’Alton said volunteer units were on standby.
“Flood waters are full of hidden dangers and we urge people not to drive or walk through floodwaters,” he said.
There is a nearly 100 per cent chance of rain in Launceston on Monday afternoon, with 10 to 25 millimetres predicted.
The chance of rain remains at 100 per cent for Tuesday, with six to 15 millimetres expected.
Drivers are also being urged to take care as roads as temperatures drop and roads across the state are left covered in ice and snow.
As of Monday, Lake Dobson Road in the Central Highlands remained partially closed, with 4WD access only due to snow.
Highland Lakes Road between Steppes and Miena was open, but drivers were warned to proceed with caution due to light snow.
It was a similar message for Marlborough Road between Bronte and Miena, and the Lyell Highway between Ouse and the Derwent Bridge.
All three were open, but affected by light snow.
Cautionary warnings were also in place for the Huon Highway between Sandfly and Grove and Nicholls Rivulet Road, which was covered in patches of frost.
The Bureau of Meteorology advised minor flooding was also possible in catchments in the North-West.
“A cold front is expected to cross Tasmania this week, bringing high rainfall totals from late Monday and during Tuesday,” BOM said.
”Two day rainfall totals for Monday and Tuesday are expected in the 40-60 mm range in the West, North West, parts of the central plateau, along the Western Tiers and for the North and North-East catchments.
“Widespread river rises are expected as a result of the forecast rainfall. Minor flooding is likely to develop at a number of locations. Localised flooding is possible in small creeks and low lying areas that receive heavy rainfall.”
Catchments likely to be affected include:
- North Esk River
- South Esk River
- Meander River
- Macquarie River
- East Coastal Rivers (north of Bicheno)
- Ringarooma River
- North Coastal Rivers
- Tamar (Launceston)
- Mersey River
- Forth River
- Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers
- Arthur River
