It was announced in 2015 that May Shaw Health would take over Scottsdale aged care facility Aminya, and run it in conjunction with the Dorset Council and state government.
The council voted at its meeting on July 16 to resolve to enter into a contract with May Shaw and to execute a Redevelopment and Asset Transfer Agreement.
The contract incorporates the sale of the Aminya facility and the provision of loans totalling $2.5 million to facilitate the redevelopment of the Aminya and James Scott Wing aged care facilities into a single facility.
The Aminya facility will be transferred to May Shaw on July 1, 2019 for $135,000, the same price the council paid Presbyterian Care Tasmania for the facility in 2015.
The existing Aminya facility will be refurbished and its capacity increased by 30 beds. James Scott Wing residents will be transferred to Aminya when the redevelopment is completed.
The James Scott Wing will be repurposed, with the purpose to be determined in 2019.
General manager Tim Watson said the council had received overwhelming support and encouragement from the community in their effort to facilitate a “sustainable solution” for aged care in the municipality.
“The decision has not come without its challenges and has involved council potentially taking on significant financial exposure,” he said.
