MOUNTAIN CALLS: Call of the Mountain & Other Places – recent work by Michael Weitnauer. This exhibition revisits selected places that have importance for the artist both visually and emotionally. The “Mountain” in this instance is kunanyi / Mt Wellington, which the artist has traversed and explored numerous times and found much inspiration for his art. The “other places” are also a selection of some other parts of our wonderful environment that have influenced the artist's work. The exhibition runs until August 11 at Gallery Pejean, 57 George Street, Launceston.
A COLLECTION OF NORTHERN ARTISTS: Works by Yvonne Correlje, Luke Harvey, Carol Barnett, Carlton Cox, Mary-Ann Orchard, Paul Becker, Sharon Davidson, Muriel Sluce, Alison Cooper-White, Joyce de Ruyter, Pieter Zaadstra are on display at Woolmers. The exhibition is open from 10am to 3pm daily, until August 31.
COLLECT: Kit Hiller – 70th Birthday Celebration is on show at Handmark’s Evandale gallery. The exhibition opened on August 22 and runs until September 15. More than 15 pieces are on show for the exhibition.
ART FOR HEALTH: The Mental Health Council of Tasmania has launched its Creative Arts Award for people aged 15-25. It explores the theme of ‘how do you treat yourself?’ with entrants asked to focus on things that make them feel better. Entries close September 24. Winners announced October 10.

SUPERSTARS: Launceston College will perform Jesus Christ Superstar at the Princess Theatre in August. Jesus Christ Superstar follows the last week in the life of Jesus and is loosely told through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Five shows will be performed from August 8-11. STAGE CLASSIC: UTAS students and alumni will take on ‘the most performed play in America’ in September. Three River Theatre will perform Thorton Wilder’s Our Town at the Earl Arts Centre. They take to the stage on September 12 until 14. Tickets start at $32.
ROAD TRIP: Comedian Fiona O’Loughlin will bring her Gap Year tour to Launceston next month. Winner of Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer Award in 2001, her career has gone from strength to strength ever since. She will be on stage at the Princess Theatre on September 21, from 8pm. Tickets $39.
