Ahead of its Launceston performance of Model Citizens in August, Circus Oz will host a series of free workshops in partnership with the University of Tasmania’s School of Creative Arts.
Participants will learn and practice a range of circus skills and tricks including juggling, plate spinning and hula hooping with professional Circus Oz trainers Piri Goodman and Karen Edelenbos.
Circus Oz performer Jon Bon said it was never too early for someone to start honing their circus skills.
“When I was 10 years old my parents took me to see Cirque du Soleil and it was like a light-bulb moment for me,” he said.
“I was doing gymnastics at the time, but it was the first time I realised people actually could do something like this for a living.
“Circus performing is such a wonderful world to be a part of and hopefully these workshops will encourage that.”
The hour-long workshops will be held at the Annexe Theatre at Inveresk on Tuesday, July 24 at 10am, 1pm and 4pm and Wednesday, July 25 at 1pm.
To register, participants must email marketing@theatrenorth.com.au with their preferred session time.
More information is available here or by calling 6331 0052.
Workshops are strictly limited to 20 people per session and are suitable for those aged eight and over.
Circus Oz’ will perform Model Citizens at Princess Theatre on Wednesday, August 1. Tickets are available here.
